Jackson's Animal Rescue is a dedicated sanctuary that provides care, rehabilitation, and rehoming for cats in need. Located in a peaceful area of North Wales, the rescue takes in stray, abandoned, and vulnerable felines, ensuring they receive the medical attention, nourishment, and love they deserve.
The passionate team works tirelessly to give these animals a second chance, including those with special needs, such as cats with Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). Their mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment while advocating for responsible pet ownership and adoption.
A few weeks ago, our team had the privilege of volunteering at Jackson's. We were eager to get stuck in and help out however we could, and the day turned out to be an incredibly rewarding experience.
From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the dedicated team at Jackson's. After a quick tour of the facilities and a rundown of the day's tasks, we put on our gloves and got to work. Cleaning was our first duty, ensuring that the cats had a hygienic and comfortable space to call (temporary) home. From scrubbing out enclosures to freshening up bedding, it was clear how much effort goes into keeping the rescue running smoothly.
Next up was feeding time, which was both fun and fulfilling. Preparing meals for the cats and ensuring each one got the right food was a hands-on task that allowed us to interact with many of the residents. Seeing their eager faces as we brought out their meals was heartwarming and a reminder of the simple joys of care and compassion.
One of the highlights of the day was socialising with the cats. Some were eager for attention, rubbing against us and purring away, while others were more reserved and required a gentler approach. The staff explained how important human interaction is in helping these cats feel comfortable and ready for adoption. Whether it was playing with the more energetic felines or sitting quietly with the shy ones, it was a joy to be able to provide them with love and companionship.
A particularly touching part of our visit was meeting the cats with Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). Many people are unaware that FIV-positive cats can still live long and happy lives, and unfortunately, this often leads to them being overlooked for adoption. Spending time with these affectionate and playful felines was a highlight for many of us. Their resilience and loving nature made a lasting impression, and we hope to raise more awareness about their adoptability.
“While each cat I met at Jackson’s was wonderful in their own individual way, Bert was the one who stole my heart. As soon as I sat down in his enclosure, he climbed on my lap and proceeded to nap, purring and snoring all the way - and I honestly don’t know which one of us got more love from this experience. I know that some people might be unsure of adopting cats with FIV, but they can live as long and as happily as any other cat. Personally, the only reason that stopped me from adopting Bert on the spot was that I had a pet bird at home!”

“This was my first volunteer day, and I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I was immediately surprised by how Jacksons were doing so much with so little. Whilst we waited to get stuck in, it was amazing to see how many people arrived and became a part of the effort to make sure every cat there felt loved and was being set up for a better future. I couldn't help but reflect on my own cat and his plush little life and imagine how amazing it will be when the cats at Jacksons find their home too.”
- Joe, Head of Creative
“Walking into Jacksons, I couldn’t wait to get stuck in and help however I could. The cats were all so friendly, each with their own personality—some playful, others content to just curl up on my lap. The staff were just as wonderful, clearly dedicated to giving these animals the best care possible and resisting the urge to adopt them themselves!”
- Alistair, Senior Product Designer
By the end of the day, we were tired, fulfilled, and in awe of the sheer hard work put in each day by the team at Jacksons. The experience reinforced the importance of animal rescues and the incredible work they do to give cats a second chance. It was a reminder that even a single day of volunteering can make a difference, not only for the animals but for the people involved as well.
For anyone considering volunteering at an animal rescue, we highly recommend it. It’s a rewarding experience that leaves a lasting impact, and there are so many ways to help. If you’re unable to volunteer, supporting rescues through donations, fostering, or simply spreading the word can go a long way in ensuring these cats receive the love and care they deserve.
A huge thank you to Jackson's Animal Rescue for allowing us to be part of their mission for the day - we can’t wait to come back!
