Waggel: £4,000 coverage, £200 excess
Animal Friends: £4,000 coverage, £199 excess
With Waggel, you can customise your flexible policy by choosing from seven Annual Limit options (£1,000 to £15,000) and six excess options (£0 to £500). We’re one of the only providers that let you adjust all your Annual Limit and excess limits at renewal.
Animal Friends offers limited flexibility with changing your coverage and excess options. While you can increase your cover level for new conditions, conditions apply, and there’s no guarantee you can adjust your excess at renewal.
We want to support your pet throughout their lifetime and therefore don’t require co-payments at any age - allowing you to keep control over your pet's healthcare expenses.
Animal Friends requires you to pay an additional 20% of each claim once your pet reaches the age of 8 years old (dogs) and 10 years old (cats) - this is a common practice for pet insurance brands.
At Waggel, we ensure your pet’s dental health is protected. Our policies cover dental claims for both accidents and illnesses across all coverage levels, providing comprehensive care for your pet’s teeth and gums.
Animal Friends restricts dental coverage, only providing it for policies over £5,000 coverage. In addition, they limit £5,000 policies to dental accidents, only providing coverage for dental accidents and illnesses for their £10,000 and £18,000 policies.
With Waggel, your pet’s behavioural issues are covered up to £1,000 per policy year. This includes treatments recommended by your vet, ensuring your pet gets the support they need, and providing peace of mind for pet owners.
Animal Friends offers limited behavioural treatment coverage, with only their highest-tier policies (£10,000 and £18,000) covering these treatments up to £1,000 per policy year. Lower-tier policies do not include behavioural treatments.
At Waggel, we’ll set you up with a dedicated Customer Champion with hands-on experience of the claims process, ensuring you have access to knowledge and expertise throughout your time with us. This is not the case for Animal Friends.

Waggel was created to make pet insurance simpler and more human. In our opinion, traditional pet insurance had become overly complicated, leaving many pet owners regretting their policy choices. We believe it's our responsibility to ensure you have the right policy and support every step of the pet ownership journey, even when you’re not claiming.
